APRIL NEWS BRIEFS FROM VBASE
CHRISTCHURCH: More than 1400 women from 30 countries will be arriving in Christchurch for the triennial International Inner Wheel 13th Convention, being officially opened at the Convention Centre by Her Excellency the Governor General Dame Silvia Cartwright on 4 May. The meetings will use the Convention Centre, Town Hall and Westpac Centre from 3-6 May.
It will be the culmination of two years planning for the New Zealand hosts as they welcome colleagues to New Zealand for their first convention here. It is one of the larger meetings of women, and the focus is on fellowship, membership, communication, leadership and special projects individual countries have been involved with.
International Inner Wheel, formed in 1967, has more than 103,000 members in 101 countries, and each three years adopts an international social project. The current one, which ends at this convention, is supporting the UNICEF Maternal & Neonatal Tetanus Programme.
The opening and closing ceremonies, and the gala dinner, will all have NZ-themes, highlighting the natural colours, vegetation and shells. The welcome ceremony is at the Christchurch Convention Centre, and the gala dinner at the Westpac Centre for Sport & Entertainment. The seminars are being held at the Convention Centre and adjoining Christchurch Town Hall.
