Convention Centre among finalists in Ferndale 2005 Hospitality Awards

The Christchurch Convention Centre is a finalist in the Heinz Wattie's Outstanding Canterbury Hosptitality Venue category of the Ferndale 2005 Canterbury Hospitality Awards, and Executive Chef Andy Gibb is a finalist in the Meadow Mushrooms Outstanding Canterbury Chef category. Nominations are made by industry peers. Voting takes place in August and winners are announced at the Canterbury Hospitality Awards Dinner on 18 September.

Andy Gibb became Executive Chef in May, coming from Jade Stadium to replace Albert Vallant who has moved to Queensland. He was trained in New Zealand by German and French chefs and has had many years experience in leading tourist hotel chains here, as well as in London, California and Melbourne.

Andy said the Convention Centre allowed chefs to be adventurous preparing banquets and cocktail parties on a grand scale, often catering for 1000 people.
