Christchurch: New director appointed to venue manager
Richard Maffey has been appointed Director, Operations & Client Services at venue manager NCC (New Zealand) Ltd. He was previously Manager Building Services and has worked at the Christchurch Town Hall since 1985, when he began as a dutyman before becoming a House Supervisor within the section, dealing with operational matters. He was appointed Operations Manager in 1991 and was active on the transition committee that introduced private venue management to the Christchurch City Council-owned specialist facilities - Christchurch Town Hall, Christchurch Convention Centre and Westpac Centre for Sport & Entertainment.
Richard was on the design team for both the Christchurch Convention Centre and Westpac Centre from their inception, and was heavily involved in their technical design and acquisition.

Richard, an old boy of Christchurch Boys High School, started his working career in Land Conveyancing with the Justice Dept. He graduated from the Public Venue Management School (Queensland) in 1996.
"Although the venues are vital, our best resource is our staff, and I have a particular interest in educating and training existing and new staff to give them the tools to undertake their responsibilities with satisfaction and efficiency."
Richard is married, with three children. In his spare time he pursues his great love of writing and researching early Canterbury history. He recently published a book about early Canterbury contractor Truman Jones, and has two others waiting in the wings.
Richard joins the Executive Team at NCC (New Zealand) Ltd, comprising Mike Kelly CFE, Executive Director, Brent Ford, Director Finance & Administration, Cathy Hemsworth, Director Sales & Marketing and Russell Kenny, Director Food & Beverage.
The membership of the NCC (New Zealand) Ltd Board is Chairman John Penney, President Mr Rirksmai Sukhum, Vice President Mr Mike Godber; Board members Mrs Vanida Tulalamba, Messrs Jim Keegan, Trevor Ward, Cholakanta Boobphaves, Soammaphat Traisorat; Executive Director Mike Kelly and Corporate Secretary Brent Ford.
