Christchurch meets the demand for new products for conference and incentive delegates
The Christchurch Convention Centre basks in the bounty of a wonderful environment and the continual introduction of new products to entice planners to hold their events in the Garden City of the World.
Mike Kelly, Executive Director of venue manager NCC (New Zealand) Ltd, said corporate event planners were continually looking for new products for conference and incentive delegates to experience. Some destinations were suffering because there was a perception of "nothing new".
"At present New Zealand as a destination is riding a wave of world wide attention generated by the third of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and there's a demand for tours of Middle Earth and the exact locations where scenes were shot - talk about reinventing yourself!" Mike said.
"There's a surge of new activity in several spheres directly relevant to event planners, from food and wine products and environments, to adventure and eco-tourism ventures, cultural and heritage experiences. These new products offer excellent value for money. Some of them challenge the imagination, some comfort zones and some challenge the waist line - but there are several world class golf courses available for relatively modest green fees to keep trim."
Christchurch is home to the country's only international standard purpose-built convention venue, the Christchurch Convention Centre which adjoins the Christchurch Town Hall a wonderful performing arts centre. The Westpac Centre for Sport and Entertainment, New Zealand's largest indoor arena with a seating capacity of 8,888, is part of the venue mix managed by NCC (NZ) Ltd. Christchurch is the largest city on the mainland, South Island, and is a gracious and attractive riverside city with a modern infrastructure and excellent transport services.
"Christchurch is both destination and gateway to the magnificent scenery of the South Island, where large parts of Peter Jackson's trilogy "Lord of the Rings" was filmed. Christchurch is close to ocean, alps, nature trails, rolling hills, native forests, lakes, rivers, winter and summer sports playgrounds. There's excellent shopping, great food and wine, and quality hotels in the heart of the city. We're a young country and there's nothing stale about the variety offered event planners."
Mike Kelly said the meetings and incentives industry has an insatiable appetite for new attractions, new products, and exotic and fashionable destinations. "The Antipodes provide a safe, stable and stunning environment of exotic flora and fauna. We aren't under the threat of SARS and are proud of our clean and green image."
