Show Off!

New Zealand's premier international conference venue all dressed up to welcome the world! The Christchurch Convention Centre can be transformed into many things but last December it dressed up its many spaces all at once in an all-out glamorous "Show Off" designed to impress potential clients.

Even local members of parliament were impressed! Christchurch Central MP Tim Barnett said he was familiar with the venue and he wa often called in to a variety of events. "But the Christchurch Show Off was a revelation! It's a stupendous complex of stunning spaces, enriched by the innovation and flair of local suppliers and designers - it's potential has to be seen to be believed"

"Christchurch Convention Centre is simply New Zealand's finest. And that is even before visitors emerge from it to explore the city. They are within five minutes of the nation's leading heritage precinct, fine food from every continent and an Art Gallery which defies description."

That's just the sort of feedback Cathy Hemsworth wanted! Cathy, Sales & Marketing Director for venue manager NCC (New Zealand) Ltd planned the day to give visitors a completely different experience of the venue.

Every type of meeting room configuration was set up in the break out and meeting rooms. The convention halls were set up with displays and hospitality facilities, as well as a separate presentation room. There were several themed gala dinner and stage settings, all created to generate a WOW factor, and none more so than the Phantom theme in the beautiful Christchurch Town Hall Auditorium.

"We asked a number of themists to provide a range of popular settings so people could see what's possible, and how they could get similar effects for their events. We didn't want the Convention centre i=to get typecast in any way as just a place for meetings!" Cathy said.

The Christchurch Show Off has already paid for itself in forward bookings, based on what guest experienced. "We had a similar Show Off three years ago to introduce Australian meeting buyers to our young venue and it also was very successful. There's a lot of detailed planning involved, and we rely on the goodwill of our suppliers who make it possible, but we all benefit from the business generated. A site visit is fine but this goes a lot further in providing the actual experience sand we find people immediately get a lot more enthusiasm and ideas for how they can use the venue more creatively."

The Christchurch Convention Centre, opened 1997, is linked by airbridge to the Christchurch Town Hall. It's the only international standard purpose built convention facility n New Zealand and has hosted a number of significant meetings, such as 34th Congress of International Union of Physiological Sciences 2001, 11th Asian retailers Conference and Exhibition 2003, and 13th Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting 2001.

It is marketed as a contemporary and sophisticated boutique venue in an ideal central city location, within walking distance to all major hotel and attractions and an easy 15 minute dive from the international airport. The convention centre and magnificent Christchurch Town Hall Auditorium each have a capacity of 2500 people.
